On October 25th last year, Xiaomi announced its first 5G mobile phone MIX 3 5G. 12 hours ago, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 9 Pro 5G in China with the cost of 3699 yuan (around USD 520, AU$770, and £420), which is the cheapest 5G phone in the market right now. But with a powerful features with a blazing fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, a 6.39-inch AMOLED display and triple cameras on the back.
As usual, let’s take a look at the key parameters of the Xiaomi 9 Pro.

Appearance & Display
The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro is very similar with Xiaomi Mi 9T smartphone. Yes, there isn’t much change in the appearance of the whole machine, but it is thicker.
Xiaomi Mi 9T: 157.5mm (L) × 74.67mm (W) × 7.61mm (H), 173g
Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro: 157.21mm (L) × 74.64mm (W) × 8.54mm (H), 196g
Although it becomes thicker and heavier, the Xiaomi 9 Pro is more restrained than the 5G models already on the market.

|AXON 10 Pro (5G)||159.2||73.4||7.9||175g||4000mAh|
|Galaxy Note 10+ (5G)||162.3||77.2||7.9||198g||4300mAh|
|iQOO Pro (5G)||158.77||75.73||9.32||217g||4500mAh|
|ViVo NEX 3 (5G)||167.44||76.14||9.4||218.5g||4500mAh|
|Iphone 11 Pro Max (4G)||158||77.8||8.1||226g||3969mAh|
|Mate 20 X (5G)||174.6||85.4||8.38||233g||4200mAh|
Compared with the praised Note 10+ because of thick, Mi 9 Pro is a little lighter (but relatively thicker).
The above version I got was the Dream White. There is pink in the white, and a new color of glare is reflected in the pink.
The matte body with a gradient effect, coupled with a relatively small body, it must be deeply loved by females. Turn some angles the color would be changed completely. View the color of the screen display below.
The display of the Mi 9 Pro is the same as its predecessor – the Mi 9. It uses a 6.39-inch Samsung AMOLED water drop display with 19.5:9 aspect ratios and a claimed peak brightness of 600 nits. However, there are a lot of optimizations in the technical details, such as the sun screen 2.0, the night screen and other effects. Of course, there is also a DC dimming mode.
In terms of camera, there have been no changes with Mi 9, but the camera algorithms have been improved for better performance. At the back of the Mi 9 Pro, there is still a vertical three-shot lens. From top to bottom are a 12 megapixel telephoto lens, a 48 megapixel Sony IMX586 lens with ultra-high resolution, and a 16 million ultra-wide angle lens.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 855+ SoC and it sports 12GB of memory. We have tested the game performance of Xiaomi 9 Pro, it is relatively smooth to run, there is no problem when the frame rate is high, and the standard frame rate is smooth and not stuck. What’s more, the 9 Pro gets a vapor chamber-style heat sink made out of copper. This allows for the heat from the SoC to be dissipated to the center of the back panel which is relatively cooler. Heating is a problem that 5G mobile phones need to solve. This design increases the performance of cooling effectively.
Charging is one of the main highlights of the Xiaomi 9 Pro. The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is embedded with a built-in 4000mAh capacity battery, and it features 40 fast charging technology, 30W wireless charging and 10 reverse charging function.
The fast charging comes with a 45w charger which can be used to charge both the phone and USB-C-based laptop, such as the MacBook Pro. Just in 48 minutes you can charge the Mi 9 Pro fully.
The wireless charging function enables users to charge the Mi 9 Pro from 0% to 100% battery in 69 minutes. However, you have to buy a 30w wireless charger from Xiaomi which is sold separately.
Like Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro, the Mi 9 Pro 5G features reverse wireless charging at 10W, meaning you can use it to charge other gadgets, like smartphones, wireless earphones and even wireless mouses. The 10W speed is even higher than the iPhone’s highest wireless charging speed.
What needs to be spit is that the 45W charger that comes without Type-C interface. So, it still needs to have an A-C cable.
Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro Review: Our verdict
In my opinion, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is optimized few points based on Xiaomi 9. However, these optimizations really make it more powerful:
- Faster 5G network
- More powerful Qualcomm processor
- More efficient fast charging and wireless charging technology
- More professional calibrated screen
In fact, every point reflects the actual experience that Xiaomi pays more and more attention to users. Xiaomi wants to build a better-use flagship mobile phone. Such products are sold at a relatively low price from $520, which should be beneficial to users. The Mi 9 Pro is a hearty recommendation. If you really want a 5G mobile phone, go for the transparent model.
